Tamiya Vintage F1 Lotus

Apparently Warner Music Group doesn't want me to have my video on youtube so I will host it somewhere else.

Sadly Tamiya is against tobacco. Personally I think its gross but the money they spend on racing cars makes them OK in my book. Tamiya on the other hand to the detriment of their scale realism refuses to reproduce their decals with tobacco names. That means the eponymous JPS Lotus is now just the black and gold one. Very corny. Fortunately for me I found a Tamiya Road Wizard decal set on the bay for cheap. In case you didn't now the Road Wizard came with two decal sets, the original/Honda type and the JPS livery. So yes I have a set of John Player Special decals. I also have an unpainted Road Wizard body. If I ever get around to restoring my Road Wizard it will be a JPS car. This thing looks sexy though. If I find one for cheap I may use my decals on it.

I Did It For The Wheels

The 70's were awesome. You could sex without protection or worry, you could smoke on an airplane, you also didn't need 3 forms of ID and a cavity search to get on that airplane, chest hair was cool, You could buy a brand new Pontiac Trans Am, No one would give you crap about not returning emails or texts, and most importantly bras were optional. The 70's were also a time when we wanted to see people race any kind of car. Trans Am (not the car) was in full swing. Modified real cars battling it out across America (hence the name). They had two classes, one for the big 5.0 liter v8's and another for little cars around 2.0 liters. Datsun had the sweetest econmy car ever made in their showrooms back then. That car was the legendary 510. BRE campaigned a few of them back then but the most important part of their package were the wheels. American Racing's Libre. Those wheels have to be one of the coolest wheel designs of all time. They are simple yet distinctive. Over here on the east coast our Puerto Rican contingent affectionately named them "Pelona's" which translates as "car shoes". I have wanted a set but they are rare because they're really old and they crack easily. The few times I've found a set the owner did not want to part with them. They also don't come in stupid wide how I like them (My corolla is a work in progress). So this post is really about a new set of wheels that I don't know who manufactured and some pretty bodies.

Features:

  • Width: 157mm-163mm

  • Wheelbase: 208mm

  • Tire diameter: 55mm

  • Length : 368mm

  • Decal

  • Masking Film

  • Light Bucket

A post about nothing

I scored a Tamiya FF01 the other day. It came with some nice OEM hop ups. TRF shocks, fiberglass chassis set, ball bearings, universals, and the rare heat sink. Here's a picture from the craigelest ad:

I will probably put the Ford Focus body and the pink wheels on it. The celica body I sold my friend is saying, "Keep me, keep me!" I am trying to resist. Maybe I'll buy a body and paint it up nice for him to appease my conscious. He had trouble painting the hood black so I took it back to repair it since it is very hard to come by. I'll mask up his civic to keep my mind from straying into the dastardly zone. If I come across an FF03Pro consider the celica pilfered, though. I'd replace it with something more awesome and less rare Tamiya. My Tamiya TA03F drifter should be finished soon. The steering servo I ordered turned out to be the size of my thumbnail! So I will use a standard JR servo. This post needs a product to talk about. I'll go find one.

Snow Bash Video!!!

My Redcat. People talk trash about them. I bought it because I wanted a crawler but didn't want to dump a bunch of money. I fell in love with it and upgraded it to be a "woods truck". I moved the lower links to the innermost holes to shorten the wheelbase. I used Venom creeper wheels and tires with HPI Geolander inserts which are a smaller diameter. That gives me a soft tread for traction but some cushion for hard landings.

The servos were upgraded to a Hitec HS645MG up front and a standard Futaba in the rear with an alloy servo horn up front and a short plastic one out back to limit the rear steering throw. I did a behind the axle conversion to the front steering and a high steering mod to the rear.

I also made a four-link for the rear and a three link up front to eliminate the bat wings.

The powertrain has been upgraded to dual Traxxas XL2.5 esc's and Titan 380 motors with 8T pinions and huge capacitors to keep things balanced and avoid Clod-stall.

I also cut the bottom of the chassis to allow me to use a stick pack in it.

I topped it off with a Parma Escalade body. I freaking love this truck. It is extremely tough and too much fun. Watch the video.

Now that you have enjoyed that, here's some shots from an after rain bash this summer.

Yesterday I decided to take the Redcat RS10 out for some snow bashing. I also decided to video it for today's post, completely ignoring the fact that I have no clue how to edit video. Nor do I own any video editing software. My friends the pirates took care of the software problem, and I am at work not doing my job but figuring out my new pirated software.
